“We are extremely excited to work alongside our partners to deliver services at this extra care development, built specifically to meet the needs of older people and people with care and support needs who want to live in the West Wight area of the island. Extra care enables people to remain independent and have peace of mind that care and support is available 24/7 delivered by an experienced care team that can personalise services to meet individual needs. Residents can feel a sense of community and stay socially active.”
Naomi Keyte, Head of Sheltered and Care Services, Southern Housing Group
Our partnership:
In mid 2020 ground was broken for the construction of Green Meadows, developed by Lovell Later Living in partnership with Isle of Wight Council, Funding for Affordable Homes Housing Association and specialist housing registered provider, Southern Housing Group. The scheme was delivered as operational in August 2021 with first customers beginning to move in from October 2021.
With nearly 1 in 5 of the population on the Isle of Wight aged 80 and above, compared with just over 11% nationally, our partner, the Isle of Wight Council has identified an increasing demand for at least 700 new extra care homes, meaning that Green Meadows, along with our previous development on the Island, Ryde Village, is helping to meet the council’s Older Person’s Housing Strategy, part of its wider Extra Care Strategy. Residents began moving in during October 2021, with the scheme offering a strong focus on independence while providing residents flexibility of care provision and additional support should their needs change.
“Extra care is something that we on the Island are strongly committed to. We believe this new way of living has the potential to improve lives for many older and vulnerable people here for years to come.”
Councillor Clare Mosdell,, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Housing Needs, Ilse of Wight Council
“Lovell Later Living will continue to support Southern Housing Group and Isle of Wight Council within this transition period to ensure the development provides the right environment for people to live well and age well, having created a place which provides age appropriate housing with access to vital services and facilities to support people to remain in their own home.”
Paula Broadbent, Managing Director, Lovell Later Living
Green Meadows continued to be populated during the Autumn of 2021, and in November 2021 Southern Housing Group hosted an official opening event celebration, not only to commemorate the scheme completion but also the achievement of full occupancy in time for Christmas 2021!
